Cameron, speaking at a debate on the existence...

This weekend I had the chance to watch an absolutely amazing movie: Fireproof. It is brought to us by the same church that bought us Facing the Giants. I had been wanting to see Fireproof since it came out on the 26th of last month, but it did not come to theaters in our town, until this last weekend. I was over joyed when I found out that it was finally coming to a theater near me. Here is why:

Fireproof is based off #1 New York Times Bestseller The Love Dare written by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. Through the movie we follow Caleb, played by Growing Pain’s Kirk Cameron. He and his wife are struggling through life and decide they cannot make their marriage work. Caleb is challenged by his father to not to give up on his marriage, giving him a copy of The Love Dare. This takes Caleb on a 40 day journey, encouraging him and teaching him what it means to truly love.

The journey which we are taken on encourages us to examine our own lives and to Fireproof our own marriage. I have not read the Love Dare, but I will be reading it as soon as I finish a couple books that we are reading though for our youth group bible studies. With the number of failing marriages in the United States we cannot sit around and do nothing. According to the authors of The Love Dare:

“But be sure of this: it will take courage. If you accept this dare, you must take the view that instead of following your heart, you are choosing to lead it. The world says to follow your heart, but if you are not leading it, then someone or something else is. The Bible says that “the heart is deceitful above all things,” and it will pursue that which feels right at the moment.”

This is so true!

I’ve been trying to figure out how best to share how truly wonderful this movie is, and I’ve come to the conclusion that nothing I say will give it justice, so here is the movie trailer:

There you have it! Now, I dare you to go see Fireproof and to take the love dare. It could change your life, it could change your marriage.
