Eating Healthy On The Run

February 22, 2009 by Melissa · Leave a Comment

Whether your traveling on the go or around the
home, you don’t need to give up healthy eating
simply because you are on the run.  The fact is,
healthy eating is even more important when your
trying to keep up with a busy schedule.

Having a good diet will help your body to handle
stress better.  As you hustle about, a healthy meal
is probably the last thing you think about.  The
following tips can help you eat when your on the go.

Restaurants
With tempting menus, large portions, and a festive
atmosphere, it’s easy to skip healthy eating.  It’s
okay to splurge every now and then, although you’ll
pack on a lot of weight if you make it a habit.
When you eat out at restaurants, always be smart
about it.

Airports
An airport can be a very stressful place, although
you shouldn’t scrap your diet because of it.  Eat
because you are hungry, not because of stress,
boredom, or to kill time.

In your car
Keep some healthy snacks in your car at all times,
so that when you get hungry – you have them.

At home
Evenings and mornings are busy times in most homes.
Making the time to eat can be hard, although you
shouldn’t run out the door without eating breakfast
first.  Cereal with milk, a banana, muffin, or even
a bagel is a great way to start the day.

Anytime you are on the go, always make sure that you
make the right food decisions.  You can take healthy
food with you if you need to, so that you have it
when you need it.  Eating healthy on the go is easy
to do, once you know how.  Never sacrifice healthy
food for junk, as your body will regret it later.

Product Review-Fiber One Chewy Granola Bars

November 24, 2008 by Melissa · Leave a Comment

I received some products from Fiber One to do a Product Review on. Now I was a little hesitant because the name kind of threw me off, when I think of Fiber I think of tasting like Cardboard. A Lot of healthy granola bars I have tried in the past have been very dry, and lack flavor and I was hoping Fiber One would not fall into that same category. But Have to tell just looking the box with the photos of the granola bars had me drooling.

We received a full box of Oats & Chocolate Granola Bars, and I enlisted the help of my children to help me test this out. The Oats & Chocolate Granola Bars were simply sinful and so delicious. The bars claim 35% of yor daily fiber in one single granola bar which is a wonderful benefit for us health conscious Moms wanting to keep up with our kids. The granola bar was literally packed with large chunks of mouth watering chocolate chunks which definitely appealed to my children. The bars were a soft chewy moist consistency with a chocolate drizzled on the top, and chunks of oatmeal throughout. After having my daughter fighting over the last granola bar I knew these would be a wonderful alternative to candy bars, and would be a lovely addition to our home.

For the nutritional content per bar please see below:

  • Calories per serving 140
  • Calories from fat 35
  • Total fat 4 grams or 6%
  • Saturated fat 1.5 grams or 9%
  • Cholestrol 0
  • Sodium 4%
  • Total Carbohydrates 29 grams or 10%
  • Dietary Fiber 35%
  • Sugars 10 gram
  • Protein 2 Gram
  • Vitamin A 2%
  • Vitamin C 0
  • Calcuim 10%
  • Iron 2%

After enjoying a granola bar, and each of my daughters enjoying one, we wanted more. Honestly these are very fulfilling granola bars, especially for chocolate lovers. But along with being a delicious granola bar it makes you feel better about your diet knowing you are eating something good for you and your kids. So if you are like me a Mom who is always trying to find great healthy snacks that your kids will really enjoy I highly recommend the Fiber One Granola Bars for your family.
