With our tough economic times, families are really trying to cut back on their monthly budgets to help out with their budgets. One of the best ways to save money is with your weekly grocery shopping, while this can be time consuming in the long run you can save a serious amount of money that can be put to better use somewhere else in your monthly budget. Remember before you start making out your grocery lists that you can seriously cut down on your grocery bill by only buying what your family will consume throughout the week and no extras. Make a menu for your family listing all the ingredients you need to purchase and stick to your lists, by cutting out the extras and the impulse buys your family can save up to $40 per grocery trip. Add that up and within a month’s time you have already saved your family almost $120 just by cutting out the junk foods and impulse items.
Here are some other great tips:
1. Make a lists of the staples you need to have in your home, next to the item list the normal standard price of each item and when you do you regular grocery shopping check to see if your staples are on sale. Buying your staples on sale is another great way to really save you some money. Examples ( salt., pepper, flour, butter, bread, milk, spices, condiments etc. )
2. As I said above make a lists of all the meals your family will be eating through out the week, if you have kids in school through out the week you won’t have to make lunches through out the week but plan on quick breakfast foods for when they are running late.
3. Have a full stomach before you step foot in that grocery store. Not only are grocery stores set up to entice you but if you think about almost every grocery store has the bakery in their first aisle. Why? To entice you with the smells of fresh baked goods, if you are hungry this could set up off into a spending frenzy buying things for your family you really did not need.
4. Steer away from brand name items. Brand name items always come with a larger price tag so go with the store brand generic or generic alternative. Buying generic items can save you almost 20% off your total grocery budget.
5. Try to shop with out your kids. As every mother knows we are so tempted to award our children with a small toy or snack if they have good behavior while you complete your grocery shopping. By doing all grocery shopping alone on each trip you could save yourself money each month by not having to buy those treats or toys.
6. Coupons are a great way to really lower your food costs, by simply clipping your Sunday coupons and buying your items on sale and combining this with coupons your savings can really add up. But if you don’t want to clip coupons just following the rest of the steps in this article can also save you money.
7. Buy your meat in less expensive cuts to help you cut your grocery bills down, also purchase meat that is going to be expiring soon if you plan on using it soon this can really you FAST cash.
8. Pay for your food in cash. By carrying an exact amount of cash you are MUCH LESS likely to over spend. By using your credit or debit card you are always assured that if you overspend your debit or credit card can cover that amount. By carrying cash you are assuring that you ONLY Spend the amount of money that you brought with you. Therefore setting yourself a true grocery budget.

* I drizzled a powdered sugar glaze over the gorilla bread before serving to make it that much better Ü (powdered sugar, vanilla extract, butter and milk) mix together until it’s the consistency you want, drizzle over warm bread and serve.
* If you don’t know what Gorilla Bread is, it’s really just a mega version of Monkey Bread. If you have never made it then you don’t know what you are missing. Monkey Bread is a sticky, gooey pastry served as a breakfast treat. Gorilla Bread has a ooey gooey cream cheese center sure to please.

It’s not Delivery, It’s Homemade

How many times have we opted for fast food for lunch or dinner instead of cooking? There’s no telling how much money we’ve spent on that one meal that easily becomes a few (or more) meals a week. Instead of picking up that telephone and calling for delivery pizza, get the family together and make one at home.
Making homemade pizza can become a great new family tradition. Choose a day of the week when everyone can get together and enjoy the experience. You can even pretend that you are in a real Italian eatery and go all out by decorating the dining room table to resemble a pizzeria.
The best thing about homemade pizza is picking the toppings. Since it is your personal pizza, you can have as many different toppings as your heart desires. It’s a chance to raid the cabinets and the fridge to find good stuff to top your creation.
How will you prepare the crust? Now, this step can be easy or an adventure. If you wimp out and go easy, you can use an already prepared crust from the store like Pillsbury pizza crust in the pop open can or a Boboli pizza crust.
It you want to treat the family to a high time of flour and dough, choose to make your own crusts. With your own, the size of the pizza can be customized for each person in the family. Making your own dough crusts will also make use of those handy pantry staples. You can find a classic pizza dough recipe on the Internet and in just about any cookbook, so find one that you like and go to it.
When the dough is ready, shape it into a circle of appropriate size. Create a rim on the dough so that the sauce won’t bubble over onto the oven rack. Now comes the fun part. The dough is ready to be dressed to the hilt.
For the sauce, we’ll let you slide and use the store bought kind if you wish. Spread the sauce over the dough and be sure to cover it to the rim. Next, top the pizza sauce with your favorite cheeses. It’s more economical to purchase a block of cheese and use a grater to slice it for pizza toppings. Those already shredded bags have only two or three cups in each which is not going to go the distance for an entire family. Besides, fresh cheese melts better.
Want to have even more fun with your family pizza creations? See who can make the wackiest pizza. Throw a little leftover chicken or hamburger on top. How about jalapenos? They are good for those who like it hot. Don’t forget the spices. It wouldn’t be a pizza without oregano, basil, and some thyme.
If you have at least two baking stones or pizza trays, you can make more than one at a time. Everyone can help to clean up while you wait for dinner to be ready. When the timer goes off, Bon ApetÍt!
If there are leftovers of your pizza, enjoy them tomorrow morning for breakfast!

Homemade Pizza

I prebaked dough according to the directions, hubby and daughter both helped to make this tonight, what fun
and soo yummy Jordan gave it a thumbs up lol, we used prego spaghetti sauce, pepperoni, green peppers, tomatoes, onions and olives plus mozzerella of course. We used a cookie sheet and made one big ol pizza, turned out perfect, we even have leftovers
http://www.safyeast.com/baking/lessons_onea.html
BASIC PIZZA AND CALZONE DOUGH
(makes 2 12-inch pizzas or 2 calzones)
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 package (2 1/4teaspoons) yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup water (120º-130ºF)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
In medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup flour, yeast and salt; mix well. Add warm water (120-130ºF) and oil. With spoon, mix until almost smooth. The dough will be the consistency of a pancake batter. Gradually stir in remaining flour to make a firm dough. Turn out on lightly floured board and knead 2 to 3 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Pizza/Calzone dough requires less kneading time than other bread dough.
Let rest 15 minutes.
Divide dough into 2 parts. The crust can be shaped right in the pan. Place one section of dough in the center of a greased 12- or 14-inch pizza pan or 9- x 12-inch baking pan. With well-floured or greased fingers, working from the center out, push the dough toward the outside edge of the pan. If the dough doesn’t stretch easily, let it rest a couple of minutes and then press it out some more. You may have to repeat this a couple of timeS. If any holes or tears appear, repair by pinching dough together. Complete with your favorite toppings. Bake at 425ºF for 25 to 30 minutes until edge is crisp and light golden brown and cheeses are melted. Serve immediately.
BAKING TIP: You can par-bake the crust to 10 minutes at 400ºF to save for toppings and further baking later. Be sure to generously prick the crust with a fork so that it doesn’t bubble too much while baking.

Yummy Strawberry Banana Bread
November 1, 2008 by Allison · Leave a Comment

The other day I was playing around with my favorite banana bread recipe and I made a really fun recipe in the process! I hope you enjoy.
1Cup + 2 T Sugar separated
1 Stick of butter
2 Large eggs
3 Ripe Bananas
1cup loosely packed strawberry slices in syrup
1T ground cinnamon
1t nutmeg
2cups unbleached flour
1t baking powder
1t baking soda
1t sea salt
½cup wheat germ
Nuts and Chocolate chips are optional
The night before slice strawberries, add 2T Sugar and let sit in the refrigerator over night, if you have any strawberries left over you can enjoy them over ice cream with a slice of your strawberry banana bread.
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Grease a 9×5x3inch loaf pan
- Cream 1 cup sugar with butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs 1 at a time, beat well each time.
- In a different bowl mash the bananas with a fork and mix in the 1 cup loosely packed strawberries with syrup, making sure the syrup fills the spaces between the strawberries.
- In another bowl mix flour, wheat germ, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add nuts and or chocolate chips here if wanted.
- Mix creamed mixture and banana mixture until combined. Add the dry ingredients just long enough for the flour to disappear.
- Pour into bread pan, sprinkle the top lightly with sugar
- Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes clean.
- Let cool for 15 minutes and then remove from the pan. Let cool before slicing.
