No matter how old your kids are, it can be a challenge to spend time with them. When they’re young they go to bed early and when they’re in the tween and teen stage, they are on the go with sports, being with their friends, and working. It’s a struggle at times, but you must not give up on this valuable time together.

One way to spend more time with your kids is to do family fitness. Include the kids in your workout. This will help you to multi task and it’ll be good for them to have a fitness routine to follow. Here are a few tips to help you make your family fitness time a success.

1. Workout

You must choose a workout that will help you get what you need out of it, but it’s also important to do one your kids can do as well. If you choose something that’s too hard or difficult for them to do they’ll become frustrated and won’t want to do it. This may be a challenge, but when you find one that works your kids will want to do it with you.

If you find it’s hard to do a workout that your kids can do, consider working out with them for 15 minutes and then use the next 15 minutes to do a program that fits you better. Another option is to do family fitness time three days a week and then the remaining four days do what you need to do. This is a win-win for everyone when you make it work for your family.

2. Location

Depending on the age of your kids and the money involved, you may not be able to do family fitness time at the gym. Some gyms have age requirements and the money involved for a family pass may be more than what you can afford to do each month. If that’s the case, find other ways to do family fitness time. Consider working out in your home or doing things outside together that would count as a workout.

There are DVD‘s you can purchase that have family workouts or you can find activities you can do outside like walking a path near your home, hiking, or walking the dog around the neighborhood. Consider the things you enjoy doing and then put that into family fitness time so everyone wants to do it. That’ll make it easier to do and it won’t be a fight with the kids.

Family time is priceless and is important to do regularly. When you find a way to have family fitness time and you include the kids, no matter what their age is, you’ll be able to get your workout done and have family time. You’ll also help your kids to stay fit and see the value and the importance of exercise so they continue to do it regularly all their life.
